Subject: RE: Fan layout for 4 row freestall barn

Chilliwack BC
Last year we put fans in. Our barn is 3 row with feed alley on the side, about 70 wide total. One important consideration is having as many stalls as possible with 2+ meters per second or 400 feet per minute air speed over them. Robot rooms or crossovers can create dead spots with a number of stalls behind them not having airflow. We put 3’ fans with 1/2 hp motors every 12’ on the side blowing crossways angling down towards stalls. I’ve since made louvers to direct some air downward to the stalls directly below the fans. Fans size, spacing, orientation was on the recommendation of Gordie Jones of Wisconsin.

We bought Canarm BSM fans. Their literature has a chart showing wind speed compared to distance from fans.
