Big Sky Country | I’m barbed wire. 4 strands division fences, 5 strands perimeter.
A main thing is braces. Corners, ridges, dips, angles. At least every 1/4 mile on straight and level.
A location commonly ran thru? Good brace on each side of it. Few tools, half an hour, and back to the house.
We run in 3 to 5 acre per aum country—-3 to 5 acres, per cow, for a month. So, takes some fence.
The expense, agonizing and drama exhibited here —-in general—over a little fencing always kinda surprises me.
Might build 2 stretches this yr—-think I’ll do ‘jack leg’ —got a pile of reclaimed material off game range project—-stout fir.
This is like upside down ‘V’—-no holes to dig, I’ve replaced some where the legs were pegged together with dowels shaped with hatchet, square nails, some of the wire collector type—-flat, spur rowels, etc—-and still good—-good braces, 4 wires one side, ‘leg’ wire the other—kinda whittle away at it—-per mile, 4 or 5 days total for 2 guys, one of which is old and lazy…. | |
