Subject: RE: PC back up battery

Virginia, Northern Neck
After years of disappointment with commercial UPS systems, we built our own.

It consists of an RV converter/charger across an H7-AGM battery, driving a 2kw inverter (over-sized for the load) always on.

The computers and peripherals are always running off the inverter, no interruptions or power surges.

When the power goes out, we have plenty of time to start a generator if we need to, or just wait a while for the co-op power to come back.

Twice a month, when we perform a generator load test, we cut the AC power to our homemade UPS for 3 hours or so, just to deep-cycle the battery.

Our homemade UPS has lasted several years so far.

If the battery ever gets to where it only holds for 15 minutes or so, I will replace the battery.
