Not birds. They go for the eyes first, then the bung hole. They killed a 600 pound steer of a neighbor's years ago, so size doesn't matter to them. Doesn't look like lightening either. I don't think that would show on both sides and there would be burns on the legs melted the hooves.

I agree with this. The buzzards killed one of mine last year and that's exactly how they did it. Not quite that big but perfectly healthy. I've never seen one that was struck by lightning but I also think the lightning would go out his legs and should be more burnt looking.
