Agree on checking battery. Don't try to mow or run one with a weak battery that requires a jump start. It can and will destroy your alternator and electric clutches over time.

Try wiggling the battery cables while it's running to see if anything obvious is occurring there.

Certain models experienced wire chaffing /rubbing by the seat latches. This resulted in bare copper wires being exposed and would make contact with other wires and the frame. If you turned the lights on the PTO might engage also even though the PTO knob was not engaged or pulled upward. Engine would spurt and sputter and do strange things. The warranty repair required a new wiring harness to be installed. Not certain if the new harness was longer and or what the exact remedy was supposed to be.
