Subject: Water cycles on earth?

Is there always the same amount of water on the planet? I got thinking about rainfall and how it magically drops from the air. There has to be a massive amount of water vapor suspended. I did the figure on 1" of rain over North Dakota. Worked out to 1.247 trillion gallons. 12.47 trillion pounds.
