Southwestern Minnesota | I was in Greece last summer and discussed olive oil with a vendor in Rhodes. He was selling "authentic" Greek extra virgin olive oil. Of course, he felt his product was superior and that the olive oil from Greece was the best. I did buy a small bottle of his olive oil.
He said that other European countries also bought olive oil from Greece and then processed it and then re-sold it claiming that it was from that country. When I got home I checked on the country of origin of the olive oil I had purchased at Hy-Vee. The country of origin was listed as: Argentina, Chile, Spain or Tunisia. So, Spain could have bought it from Greece and then re-sold it as coming from Spain.
I have also purchased olive oil processed in Texas, which was a good product too.
I am not a connoisseur of olive oil, so it's hard for me to say if I like one better than another. | |
