Subject: RE: Sudan and nitrates

Sadan or sorghum of any kind seems like it’s always high in nitrates here in Colorado. We have grown it sence it came out. I’d say it needs a good 15 inches of rain. Our usual 5 inches doesn’t cut it most years. We feed it 33% Sudan, 33% hay millet, 33% alfalfa in lactation. That Sudan comes in the 4-6% protein, no energy and high in nitrates. It’s worse off than cornstalk bales. I would feed corn stocks if they weren’t $120 a ton these days and $18 a bale of grind.
