I think today's numbers work out better, jobs are certainly easier to come by.


I was going to the take the time last winter to do a deep dive into this and see what's really the case because I think you could argue it either way.

Our buying power is less now than it was then, our standard of living is higher now than it was then too which clouds things up. Most families have A/C, Cell phones, internet, and a few streaming services. You can sure choose to live like it's 1984 yet without all of those but you won't be fully participating in society while you're doing that.

It was more common to see a single income household back then, now there are two incomes and kids are at day care eating up 2/3 of one of the incomes.

Currently the biggest issue now is things are still being sold at 4% interest money, even though it's 8%+, we haven't had the reset yet.

Struggle at a young age is good for everyone, they will learn to work hard to overcome being broke and appreciate what they have when they finally get there.
