Southeast WI | Thanks for explaining what happens there. Obviously in your locale it's no issue knocking down that much hay with minimal weather risk. It also makes hay just another commodity crop which is human nature to make things simple.
Here in the humid midwest the few that have turned dry hay making into an art have elevated the returns above simple "commodity pricing" if you will, by establishing/developing their own market base of pretty loyal customers. Takes some work but treat your customers fairly and there's decent long term profit in it by selling direct to the consumer.
