My 4230 was doing same thing
I had to shorten the reverse cable one and a half turns and it cured it. Apparently it was still in reverse mode when shifter was in forward.
I noticed when going from river to forward, if i slammed shift lever to fight it would go into forward.
If I went slow and easy it would act up so shortened reverse cable as stated.
