Driftless SW Wisconsin
Most fence building around here is done by putting in the corners then stretching the bottom wire tight, corner to corner and using that as a guide for placing the intermediate posts.

I did use a laser to layout some single wire rotational grazing strips on the contour years ago. Then put flags along the laser line, came in back and pounded in wood posts every 50 ft or so. In our hills grazing on the contour helps minimize cattle paths up and down the hill and developing gullies.

3 miles is a lot of fence. Straight line, rectangle, curves?
