Stalk rots of various names often cause lodged (= down) corn even with little help from the wind. Perhaps the fungicide could've prevented the damaging stalk rot, or alleviated it. We've experienced stalk rots in many years ever since I can remember picking corn, years before combines.

But, if you have sustained high winds you mention, I don't think it matters whether or not you spray fungicide.
