Where the spiral ends on a flute, I left that one full length. The next one I cut 1.5 inch, the following one I cut 3 inches, then back to a full length that ends at the spiral. I don't know if there's a better way of doing it but I was happy with how it worked after. Easiest to cut them on the bench before installing them, B&R uses a chrome material you can't cut with a torch so I used a plasma cutter
