Subject: RE: New views of the WIU Organic Research Farm

Hi Landon,

We currently have 3 student workers working part-time (adding up to about 40 hrs per week)... other labor is done by me, my research tech, and local farmers (planting and harvesting are mostly custom).

Autosteer, improved planting and cultivation equipment, more timely field operations, high biomass fallow of some plots in 2023 and dry weather in June all helped with weed control this year.

here is a link to some pics of cultivating soybeans last week:

Ideally we will just cultivate these beans one more time... but that will depend on the weather and observed weed pressure.

The attached pic in my original post is of a solar experiment. We have been trying variations on solar corridors for a number of years... this year we tried twin rows for the first time. The twins were established by planting twice in opposite directions after off setting 26". This didn't work as well as planned because the clutches turned off the second rows about 10% of the time :(
