I put out a replicated half mile long plot a few years ago at 100k, 135k, 150k, and 160k planted in 15 inch rows. My ground drive planter wouldn’t go lower or I would have also tried 80k. There was less than 2 bu/ac difference between all populations. I went to planting at an angle the next year and haven’t messed with it any more since I no longer follow rows with the combine. Since then I have talked to others who have had similar experiences.
