Subject: RE: Highest soybean population

South Central Illinois

Last year, I had several fields that needed extra population.
Had around 60,000. I needed to get to 80,000.
So I planted 70,000
The ones that went in ahead of the rain had 20% to 25% emergence.
They were too deep.
Too much rain, sealed them in.
I left everything set the same, and headed back out as soon as I could to finish.
Turned off hot and dry and only 20% to 25% of those came up because they were too shallow.
We planted a lot of stubble beans at 120#  per acre when we were using bin run seed.
So they were around 300,000 at planting time.
