Are you seeing tunnels in these areas or just mounds or holes? They might be moles or shrews eating bugs in the ground indicative of a grub problem in the field. In which case beneficial nematodes would help.

There are gophers in Missouri.

I would try to identify what they are so you are targeting the right critters.

There’s tunneling. I saw a couple of them and basically, big mouse. We always called them field rats in the Bootheel (geographic terminology) but they’re not as big as a true rat.
