E.Central MN | I think the insurance companies are partially to blame. They used to depreciate roofs before settling a claim. So if you had hail damage on a 20 year roof the insurance company liability was practically zero so most of the time it didn't pay to file a claim. In the past 10 years there were times when roofing companies came in to an area and replaced the roofs on almost all the houses at the expense of the insurance companies regardless of how old the shingles were. Of course their rates would go up. Then add in inflation and natural disasters in southern states where the reinsurance companies are exiting as fast as they can which also raises the cost of staying in business for the insurance companies that are writing the policies. There is no free lunch in insurance. | |
