The point of Fungicide is protection. It isn't a reactive treatment. Yes, you don't want to spray too early because fungicides aren't very mobile in the plant tissue, but you also need coverage of foliage lower in the canopy. If conditions are right for infection, spray the dang fungicide. I had a guy spray beans last week, why? Because his canopy will be closing in the next 2-3 days, it is hot and humid, and we apply fungicide not only to prevent SWM, but also to improve crop health and reduce stress(crazy heat coming over the next 5 days). Not to mention, 2 MOA fungicides are CHEAP now, his entire pass (Drift and Deposition agent+Fungicide+PGR/MicroPak+Plane Application) was about $21. If the local coop had sprayed it, it would have been about $41 per acre without a PGR and micro pack included.
