Was "just as accurate"?   Well, okay, we started spraying with foam markers and low tech too, but automatic swath control and guidance save one helluva lot of product if you don't live in the land of square fields and straight half mile rows....

I've actually wondered how much of the Scepter carryover problem after the 1988 drought could have been mitigated by greatly reducing the overlaps that happened back then.  It's chemistry that basically got murdered by one unfavorable growing season that could still be a viable tool today.
