My wife wanted a Maytag with nothing in the middle. I don't know what it is called. If my work clothes are real dirty, I wash them in the old Maytag in the basement. More peaceful that way.


There's also significant redundancy advantages to having a second washer hooked up. Keep the fancy one upstairs for your wife to use, and put a cheap inefficient agitator-top-loader machine in the basement. That one gets the extra dirty stuff, and takes the pressure off when the one upstairs needs repairs.
