Fontanelle, IA | I have been "attempting" to harvest my HRW crop that should have been harvested maybe 10 days prior. My grain moisture has been running in 9-11% range but our daytime temps have been in the 85-90 degree range with more heat and humidity beginning tomorrow Saturday through Tuesday of next week. Grain feels warm augering it into the bin.
in light of the temp and moisture of the grain, do you run the fans at night even though humidity will be close to 90+ percent in order to "cool" with mid 70 degree air for the next few days OR wait for late next week (7 days away) and try to hit even cooler nights with hopefully less humidity? How do you manage your storage conditions of wheat? Are there any guiding principles? how easily does wheat re-wet (similar to corn or soybeans if temp and humidity are constant)? none of the few publications I've read even mention using a stirrator in bin --- I'm taking this as a definite "O Heck NO = stirrator"?
Many thanks for any advice!
