Hardin County, Iowa | Interesting. I was always told that direct cut oats needed to be stored in a granary or overhead bins in the crib. That allowed the wood to absorb the moisture released during the sweat. The other option was a metal bin with aeration. Last year we direct cut and they went into a bin with a floor and fan. I'll have to ask around and see what older guys around here did. I'm sure that back in the day the main storage available for oats was wood structures and the metal bins stored corn or beans. Paul
Edit to add: I was told that letting them go through their sweat in a metal wagon or bin with no aeration led to moisture condensing on the walls and making the oats moldy on the outside.
