In reading the book review on this book it gave great praise to the US tanks.  I have read other reports that the US tanks we very weak in metal thickness and the Germans could blow them up at will.  The US said they made the tanks lighter so they could be faster and then be able to out maneuver the German tanks.  The report said it did not work.  Something like 10 US tanks would be destroyed for every 1 German tank.  US tanks were a rolling death trap.

Has anybody else read about what I just said or am I all wrong about the US tanks ?

I think what you read is true. The Sherman was mass-produced in large numbers, but were really no match for the greater firepower and armor of the German heavy tanks. Unfortunately, Germany was unable to build them in sufficient numbers to defeat the Allied forces.
