Central Nebraska | When I was younger I had cocker spaniels and a few mutt beagle/shelties. I never understood peoples attraction to labradors. When we moved to the farm and needed a dog we found a lab/short hair cross at the local shelter. He's my best buddy but he's 12.5 years old and I know his days are numbered. 8 years ago we brought home a pure bred black lab. She's not well trained but she's a great dog. If you think I'm crazy for having two big dogs I'll seal the deal for you. On Sunday we brought home a 9 week old silver lab. I've come to realize a labs temperament is great for the farm and around familes. Smart, loyal, easy to train, and able to keep them contained. My 7 acre yard has a wire around it and the dogs wear collars 24/7. They don't run even if the batteries are dead.
Edit to add.....the two older ones have killed dozens of raccoons and two badgers. Don't mistake their gentleness for weakness.
