"here" shank strip till in the spring is a big no, no. potential for smearing is too high. But that could be a "here" thing. It could be anywhere that isn’t sandy and under irrigation. There’s a reason one trippers are so popular in Nebraska, they get away with dragging a shank around in the spring, followed with planter row unit in same pass. That would hardly ever work here in my part of north iowa. This spring was a rare one where I would have been comfortable using a shank, prior to April 25 here. It was just about if not actually record dry at that time. |
