You missed them by a month or two. We had some of the 14 and 17 year broods. Annual ones now. What they never told anyone among all the "invasion" warnings is they don't exist on a prairie where the trees were all kept down by prairie fires years ago because there were no tree roots to feed on. They were thick along creeks and old timber stands.
