Dagmar, MT | I managed to piss off most of the neighborhood 15 years ago…some still won’t talk to me. Elderly landlady(late 80’s) was sick & tired of not getting paid rent. She wondered if I’d actually pay her a cash lease for good ground right next to me. Told her of course, good year or bad year land owner still gets paid. Her tenant at the time didn’t want to pay in a bad year…..& for him that was every year.
It was like a flex lease that went in the wrong direction for the landowner. As the years went by, got more calls like that…turns out abusing the elderly landlady’s was SOP here. It is a business….I learned the ones most offended by “stealing” rented ground from a neighbor are total slimeballs around here anyway. I’ve also lost some rented ground to higher bids so it’s not like I want to farm every acre. Treat the landlords right & the heirs remember that when it’s time to sell the land. | |
