North of London | So you are asking about the first life that reproduced using 'eggs'.
that includes plants and animals and logically there will be no physical proof of the very first eggs since they would be quite small and not substantial enough to last through billions of years.
One thing is for sure if there was no egg then there would be no reproduction and therefore no offspring to carry that life form forward.
It will take a little time and research to find more info on how and when that form of reproduction came about but the ability to pass on life info using 2 individuals gave life the opportunity to have mutations that allow changes that benefit reproduction rather than asexual reproduction.
There is a life form that uses both called Hydra (I think that is correct spelling ) I think it uses sexual reproduction when under stress but asexual otherwise.
So stress causes it to use sexual reproduction, with eggs, to come up with new mutations to overcome the stress.
That is how evolution works.
Just do a little search for lots of knowledgeable info on those options | |
