The first thing to do is to consult with a reputable dentist to discuss the options. If you want a specialist...that specialty is called prosthodontics. There aren't a lot of prosthodontists, so unless you live by a big city, it may be hard to find one. Stay clear of the chains like Aspen Dental or the same-day denture places that advertise heavily.

Assuming that her teeth are truly not restorable, then there are the options are what you described. One choice is to make a denture before the extractions and have it ready to insert the day of the extractions. The dentist has to estimate what the bone will look like after the extractions....so there are a lot of assumptions and various levels of success. When the teeth are extracted, the jaw bone (called alveolar bone) will resorb. This will happen rapidly after the extractions and then slow down, but will continue to resorb for a long time. The immediate denture will need to be re fit soon after the extractions, then again a few months later, and again sometime after that. Expect a marginally fitting denture that will need a lot of adjustments and usually needs to be completely re-made a year or two later. Sometimes they work out pretty well....but, have low expectations going into it.

Waiting a few months after the extractions will get a better initial fit of the denture. BUT, again, the bone will resorb and it will eventually need to get re-lined. She's more likely to get a few years before needing to make a new denture. Most people don't' like the idea of several months without teeth.

The above info also depends on which teeth she is missing, which will be extracted, and the shape/quality of her bone. Certain areas of bone resorb more/faster than other parts of the mouth.

Lastly, you said that money isn't a factor....then consider an implant supported denture. There are some good options now for implant supported, but the denture is removable to clean it.
