 Thumb of Michigan | I'd start with a soil test, follow its recommendations.
Then if you want grass hay, combo with at least these two Orchard Grass and Meadow Brome Grass. You could put some RC too. You'll get a lot higher feed value from OG and MB, than RC I think.
Edit: there is a branch root alfalfa out now that might even work for damper environments, but I have zero experience with it.
