Spring Ranch, NE | Keep them together (as long as the heifer isn't trying to hurt the calf) in the small pen and let them do their thing. Hard to do at times. Especially when its so dang cold (assuming your in the deep freeze). But that calf should be able to figure it out when it gets hungry again.
Are crazy temperaments common in your herd? I would hope its got to do with hormones and she will balance out in the next twelve hours.
Worst case scenario catch the heifer morning and evening and help the calf nurse the heifer. I don't do bottles, thats why I have the cow. Usually by day two they have it figured out. | |
