Greensburg IN | We have been strip tilling for about 5 years, now with fertilizer. We plant cover crops and then strip till w a dawn unit in the spring a couple weeks preplant. We found no yield difference between strip tilling w no fertilizer and straight no till. Then we added fertilizer and more tissue sampling throughout the year. The tissue tests helped us make decisions on rates and products for the next years strips. Some products like iron can’t really be added in dry form because it just won’t break down to be plant available so you just work with what you can. We also plant all of our beans on 30” strips and this allows us to only use one planter. One of the best things we have added is the furrow force closing system from precision planting, this has made our emergence almost perfect. Really like the overall system of strip till and we continue to make tweaks every year
