Same here. I wait to tag until we work them about 6 weeks later then watch which calf is nursing on which cow and line them up in my Cattlemax program. Not perfect but safer. Even my normally calmest cows get very protective of their calves after calving. And that's a good thing. Why mess with nature?

A thought:  how would you feel if a stranger tried to eartag your child shortly after birth?  Years later they seem to have ear rings all over!  ;-)
