Subject: Terminating cover crop with sickle bar?

Northampton County, PA
Hi all,
I have planted a crop of rye-vetch to plant my crop of pumpkins in this year. I however don't have access to a crimper roller and haven't been able to find any to rent at a reasonable distance. I was also told a cultipacker would work to terminate the crop similar to a crimper but I can't find any neighboring farms that have one either. I do however have an older john deere sickle bar and was wondering if this would work to terminate a cover crop? Has anyone had any luck doing this? Planning to employ people this year to plant by seed by hand as I don't have a planter to use either so the concern about it potentially gathering around the wheels isnt one to me
