Missouri river bottom south of Sioux City, IA | Compared to the JD 1910 cart that I started out with, the Valmar box is hands down one of the best pieces of equipment that I have purchased.
I only had the JD 1910 for 3 years. Think I experience every problem that one could have with a dry fertilizer cart. The cart had issues plugging where the tanks narrow down at the meters. The meters really could not handle the corrosion from fertilizer. The cast iron outside started pealing from corrosion, the meter gates would not close after the second year. The meters themselves were plastic that couldn’t stand up to fertilizer. Ended up having to get completely new meters for each tank ($6,000) and then sold the cart after the third season.
Realized that the cart needed to be stainless to handle the corrosion that fertilizer brings. That’s when I found the Valmar box. No plugging, the meters are in the open so you can watch them. They are easily removed. The opening on top to fill the tank is large, so getting a tender auger to that is easy. The meters are so simple and accurate. I can’t think of anything I would want changed on it. I have a scale on the tank so calibration works well with Trimble’s FIQ system. The tank is mounted on an Othman auger cart frame. I added the 5th wheel frame to the front of it that sets on the Orthman 12 row strip till 7x7 bar.
I know you can’t get this same meter setup since Salford took over Valmar but think they have a good product with their Valmar ST-6.
