Oil cannot tell time, change at the hours recommended. And if it supposedly goes bad in the engine after a year, why is it still good in the barrel or bucket??
It's still good in the bucket because it's not heated or exposed to moisture or acid or dirt. Oil is a lot better than it used to be though, so I run stuff two years no problem. Some a LOT longer on years. I've rusted out vehicle oil filters, so that is one filter change interval limit.
If it's getting moisture built up, once a year is not making much difference, it will reach moisture equilibrium within a couple months I'd bet. Work it hard enough more often is the answer to moisture, not changing the oil at one year instead of two. The additives will wear out faster with the moisture though, so changing annually AND running it hot once in a while is best.
Check the price of a ten pack of Cat SOS oil tests before you buy any other oil test, not often I'd say the Cat dealer is the best price. |
