SE Iowa | Are you around all the time? Have a town job fulltime? A good dog takes a lot of training and being gone 8 hours a day with kids and wife needing attention once you do come home isn’t going to serve a young impressionable puppy well. 90% of dogs can be trained to be a darn good farm dogs. If you think you can give it the time just pick a reasonable breed you like that fits ur needs. German shepherds are my personally favorite I love the female we have now. Blue heelers, border collies, labs, etc can all work.
