| Cutting a mix of tall rye and hairy vetch with an older sickle bar mower is NOT going to be fun...especially if wind has already leaned over some of the vegetation.
Once the rye has bloomed it is very easy to knock down by driving over it with any type of vehicle (I've used a Prius :) but you can easily make a simple roller with a piece of telephone pole, bolts and a piece of chain.
Rolling down the cover crop may actually be the easiest part of your adventure.
Planting 4 acres of pumpkins by hand is serious labor!
What plant spacing are you planning to use?
6' between row spacing and 2' in-row spacing = 3,630 plants per acre.
Are you planning to plant seeds or set out transplants?
How are you planning to sell the pumpkins? A typical yield of about ~ 20,000 lbs per acre x 4 = a lot of pumpkins to sell!
