Southeast Washington | Most Horsch drills here are the 2 rank Cougar and not the 4 rank Panther. One neighbor does have 4 Panthers but for the most part he isn't farming the most productive of land.
In our area it seems like when trying to push the drill to the limits it rains and gets wet eliminating any attempt to be successful. We have the opening coulter that may work but the disk levelers behind create the problem of bunching up.
Some have mowed and double vertical tilled and double harrowed to try to get their shank drill through the residue this last fall as we were dealing with 140 bpa stubble. Some of us still use the old tried and proven way of getting through the residue. Right now I will just say this isn't for everyone.
