SE Washington | I think the disc closers are what is going to be your issue. I seed straight into 100-130 bushel stubble with a 12" 3 rank concord that has been heavy harrowed, not stripped. For the most part I don't have major issues A couple years ago I had hoped to be able to add the disc closers to the rear rank. I bought a horsch closer to test but ended up buying a set of Kile's because they were adjustable. I had enough trouble seeding I finally pulled them all off and viola got through the stubble just fine. It was a heavy residue year so unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) it didn't work out.
With all that said Seedmaster has a new unit out that seems interesting, the Ultra SR. Single rank drill on 15" spacing with trash wheels between the shanks. I'd sure like to see one operate around here in heavy residue hills. Supposedly works great up in Canada in pea and wheat residue.
