S Illinois | Yes it's stupid to put on tariffs on imports. And if China, Mexico wants to hamstring their economy/citizenry and or subsidize the US I am not going to stop them. The issue is you are looking at this as if the accumulation of currency is better than goods. Its not. Wealth doesn't come from currency(gold when mercantilism was the theory of the day). Just the same as you don't sell grow grain to accumulate currency but rather to buy other assets/goods, the US selling things to other countries doesn't make the US richer.
