Driftless SW Wisconsin | I put up some new 5-wire 12 gage barb wire fencing last winter. Watching the cattle this year I am amazed at how they sometimes push on it, put their heads clear through it and generally disregard the barbs, especially with a bull on one side and a neighbor's heifer on the other. I also had some round bales outside of but too close to the fence and evidently the round bales looked more interesting than grazing so they pushed on the fence to reach the bales. The plan is to add one electric wire to the inside of the barb. I will put in the 3-5 ground rods but what about grounding the 5 strands of barb directly to the charger? They are naturally grounded through the steel posts of course but would a direct wire ground to one of the strands of barb provide a good shock when it is extremely dry? How does vegetation growing up and maybe bridging from hot to grounded barb affect the fence? Jim at Dawn
