Little River, TX | What is your idea of fertilizer prices for 2009?
Something that bit me on my grass hay is the price of nitrogen. We really need to price our product high enough so the fertilizer expenses for 2009 will cash flow.
It was just a few years ago I was paying $185 for anhydrous, $3xx/T last year and now it is $645/ton. At 8 T/A and 12% CP hay we are talking about 400 lbs/A nitrogen or 500 lbs/A anhydrous. That is $160/A & $20/T plus application cost.
I may have to plan on anhydrous being $900/T or more in 2009 & price my 2008 crop accordingly.
Of course all the filler hay, at a cheap price, that was baled this last rainy season, has to be sold first.
That will occur as right now it appears 2008 will be a drought year. | |
