| At one point in the late 90's, early 2000's again, I had excess grass and feed, and I could buy little 400 lb Redneck, heifers in for around $70, then, feed em out and turn em around for even money. Best group I had I think I bought right around $74 and sold as 1100 lb fats for $79. Just should have been doing hundreds rather than dozens, but didn't have the feed for that, either. However, at that time feed cost was MUCH less. Gonna take a pretty sharp pencil to keep things going today. Starting to think I need to pare off all but the cream of the cow crop and start picking up some lightweight cattle to graze through till about the 1st of July. This kind of market favors those who can be efficient with forage. | |
