Aberdeen MS | Tough to get a horse to slaughter these days anymore.
Up here... lots are starting to complain about $60/big square of brome hay.... maybe 800# worth. A few of the bigger breeders are starting to look at down sizing or even getting out. I'm not a big breeder, hell not even a small one for that matter, but haven't put a foal on the ground for 3 yrs. Not sure how much longer I'm going to wait before I cash it in. It's not so much the cost of the feed, as I grow my own, but I could do way better selling the hay than feeding it.
As long as there is disposable income, horses will still be on acreages for a pet. So far, none are just turning them loose..... yet. Way way too many still see Trigger in the same light as they do Fido. I doubt that will change very much for some time to come yet. | |
