Subject: Re: Radio call in show on Ethanol

southern MN
Minnesota (Hawaii is the 3rd state to have mandated ethanol) passed the mandate back in the late 80's I believe? Long time ago. Was a bit of brewhaha about it then too, but it blew over pretty quick. Some folks will need to go through a fuel filter as the ethanol cleans the crud out of their tank. Only thing is if some sort of battle cry goes up about food prices and ethanol right now at the same time, your state could get that double anti-popularity blow...

Minnesota actually has a 20% mandate on the books, but it is off in the future a bit before it shows up.

We also did the 2% biofuels a yaer and 1/2 ago. Right before winter. That was a bit of a mess, as a lot of folks blamed their gelled fuel on the bio. And there was a quality issue from one source that did make bad fuel.

A year later, this fall/ winter we have had a lot of real cold spells, and no one even mentions the bio in their fuel, think most have forgotten about it. This mandate has provisions to ramp up to 5% bio, but I think high soybean prices will keep us at 2% for a while.

So, people will complain a bit, but it will likely blow over unless someone with an agenda gets it to fester on a bigger reach than just ethanol in the tank.
