| Jake,
How is the nodulation in your beans? How often do you plant beans in rotation? and do you apply an inoculant when you plant beans?
IF it was mine, I would apply the litter in front of the corn crop to feed the nitrogen to the corn, having enough extra P & K to feed the subsequent bean crop. I think it is important to build soil fertility levels to grow beans. I think if you have ample soil fertility and good nodulation, the beans will take care of their N needs. (I pretty much agree with the articles SRI posted.)
If I was going to apply manure ahead of planting beans, I would apply it in the fall in order to try to lose some of the N. My preference for manure source would be beef or cattle manure, or hog manure, ahead of beans. I think poultry litter has too much N to be used ahead of beans, especially if spring-appplied. And I want to reiterate the point previously noted: applying manure is going to help the weeds grow, increasing their competitive edge.
