Rolla, ND | If the pioneer wheat is PPV then the grower can save own seed.
However, Pioneer has been patenting (not PPV) many of their plant varieties including at least some wheat. In those cases, the grower could not legally save his own seed.
I think Pioneer found the regular patent to be broader and give them more rights, and I know in the case of canola, it would appear that they basically can't get a PPV approved but aren't having the same problems with patents.
There would need to be some sort of notice given that the seed is patented, it should be somewhere on the bag or label.
